Once it was clear that almost none of the interior woodwork could be kept, it was time to arm myself with a breathing mask (due to the rodent mess) and an arsenal of tools to get down to a blank canvas. The first couple of weeks was mainly removing trash and appliances, and emptying all the storage areas. Check out what I found in the process! After removing what was left of the destroyed furniture, I had two layers of carpet to get through. I cannot fathom why Airstream thought it would be a good idea to put the carpet in UNDER all of the interior components. I will admit, this stage of the process was seriously gross. And exhausting. The bathroom remains a stubborn puzzle that I intend to tackle this weekend. Each piece is interlocked with the others, no matter how many rivets I drill out. I don’t want to utterly destroy these pieces in case there is some possibility they can be saved and restored.
